I came home from work somewhat earlier than usual today, and I was so happy to be home before it was pitch black. I finally got to see the ice that’s now covering the lake – beautiful!
I’d settled into the couch, reading and watching alpine skiing, when BAAM! Everything went dark. 8 000 households went without electricity for between 2-4 hours.
I went and got my headlight that I use when camping, to help me find candles and firewood. My main worry was maintaining the warmth in the house as we have electrical heating, as it was -10 C (14 F) outside. Luckily we installed a new fireplace out of soapstone in November, so once I had the fire going we got both warmth and some light from it.
We had plans for dinner that depended on the oven working, and I was getting very worried all my Weight Watchers planning would be for naught, but we were lucky enough to have the power back after “only” 2 hrs, so we were able to cook cauliflower and broccoli as planned – yum! For the recipe, watch this video by my hubby.
It’s situations like these that make me realize how vulnerable we are. Thank god for electricity!
