Our new routine is to go power walking before breakfast on Sunday morning, well, this is the second week 😉 Our route is 9 km, following the lake in to the city centre, and then back along the other side.

Today we’re watching the XC-skiing relays, so we’ve stayed in our training gear under a blanket on the couch – bliss!

As I look towards the other end of the couch though, I see the 70’s looking back at me!!!

Seriously, except for the iPad being far too big to pass for a Walkman, doesn’t A look like he’s been teleported from the 70’s?!

Ok, so I was sitting down to blog a bit when I completely lost my train of thought upon seeing this out my window:

A tutu? A nighty? Pink catwoman outfit? What the HELL?!

Now, what the hell is she wearing? And please note the roller in her bangs/fringe. I wonder if it stays all night or if she’s getting ready… But she’s not at home, and there’s quite a few people there (all dressed in normal clothes), so she must feel very comfortable getting ready at someone else’s house. But I guess if you’re willing to wear that in public, you’re not too concerned with what other people think, eh?

I’m just hoping she comes back out to smoke all kitted up before she leaves – I’m dying to see the shoes that go with this outfit!

Yeah, so the Olympics are on in the city of my dreams – Vancouver – if anyone hadn’t noticed. Sweden, reigning Olympic champions in hockey, just played themselves out of the tournament by a shockingly poor, and slow, performance against Slovakia, but I’m not too surprised. I wasn’t expecting much from them, not even a medal, but I guess I still thought they’d make it past the quarter final. Oh well, moving on – we’ve done incredibly well in the XC skiing, and as that’s my new personal passion I find great joy in that!

However, during these Olympic games I find that people stare at me on the tube, on the streets, everywhere… Why? Well, I guess I don’t look like your average Swedish fan…oops!

On my way back from the gym...the observant reader will notice that I'm also wearing a Roots hoodie. Ok, and a pair of sweat pants with UBC written across the bum. Ok fine! - yes, the boots were bought at MEC...geez, get off my case already! 😉 Who you calling a wannabe? What, me?!

Like my good friend Brooke writes, I too am smitten with the mittens! They’re apparently all the hype out west, and people are queuing up for ages to lay their hands on a pair. Hell, they even write about the mitts on Swedish TV’s Olympic website, and I’ve seen that one can win a pair in some competiton on Finnish TV; YLE. Me, I’m so darned lucky to have great Canadian peeps in my life, and have actually had a pair since early January, thanks to my friend Andrew, and I also received my incredibly stylish Believe toque from my sister (second family) Jodi on Tuesday! Yay – Go Canada…ehr, I mean Sweden! 😀

Foxy lady

The term “foxy lady” takes on a whole other meaning in Sweden during really cold winters, such as this one. We all bring out the fur hats and coats that have been passed down through generations. This year we’re also in luck as fur, and especially big fur hats, is in fashion. It wasn’t last year, but as I don’t give a shit as long as I stay warm, I still wore one of my…four fur hats. The one I had on tonight is extra special to me though. Why? Well, check out the pics below…

Foxy lady - fur that lasts a lifetime!

You see my sister screaming in the tobaggon (I’m in the pram) in the picture furthest to the left? (“Mom, I can’t see shit in this thing!!!” Times two…or three 😉 ). Well, it’s that very same fox fur toque I had on tonight. (Yes, I have a very small head). Cool, huh?! And the darker fur toque I had on on New Year’s Eve is the very same one that dad wears in that photo from the 70’s!

I actually have a fox fur collar to clip on to my coat as well, but figured it’d be overkill (no pun intended) on a night out on the town, as it made me look more as though I was on my way out on a bear hunt on the Siberian tundra. Hm…are there bears in Siberia? Are there bears on any tundra? Isn’t it too exposed? Ok, losing track here, sorry. To this fine foxy hat I wore a sheepskin coat that used to be my grandma’s. It’s both beautiful and warm. I love winter!

The family resemblance is striking, don’t you think?!

I was out for my monthly meet-up with my darling cousin at our regular spot – Soldaten Svejk on Södermalm. It’s a fantastic place with Czech beer and food. And a gorgeous bartender. I know, because I’ve been checking him out for months. No, I will not act on it, I will merely enjoy my dark Bernard even more. Though the semi-dark Primator we had tonight was pretty good too. The beer’s good, but certainly can’t compare to, say, Leffe, which I found myself having a few of on Thursday night. Beer’s the most wonderful thing, eh?! “Nectar of the Gods” as my friend Rasmus says 🙂 I find it way underrated and find people who just order en stor stark [a big strong one] pathetic. That means I just called about 98% of the Swedish population pathetic. But I’ll stand up for my opinion – people simply lack any sense of beer culture round here.

If by success you mean ‘to entertain colleagues’.

Yesterday at work I wore a black turtleneck dress, big (for me) golden earrings, my real, inherited, big golden bangle and a pair of wicked golden tights, oh – and black heels. This had people: laugh out loud, start singing the theme song from “Goldfinger” every time I passed, comment on how brave I am, ask what I had planned after work etc. Geez. People around here need to live a little! If a pair of gold tights can brighten that many people’s day I reckon we all owe it to our surroundings to go get a pair and start wearing them just for everyday occasions. Come on people – share the joy!

Well, at least I, for one, couldn't walk past them in the shop!

PS. It was cold this morning so I needed a toque for the first time this season, and seeing as I love, love, LOVE berets I decided on my latest beret purchase – a navy sequin one! 😉

Absolutely fabulous!

Odd_Molly

…even if I don’t own a single Odd Molly garment?!

It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that I’m not made of money, apparently unlike all other Swedish women. And funny thing – they’ve almost all bought the same garment, this lovely cardigan (comes in many colours):

Cardigan from Odd Molly

Check out their webpage – they’ve got really fantastic clothes, very bohemian chic, but I’m a sucker for both patterened fabric and embroidery, so I’m sold! Need to go shopping…

…when grooming your dog. Especially not when you’re 50+. And if you for some reason “have to”, well then don’t bloody sit like that. At least not below my balcony. No actually – don’t do it anywhere!!!
