Hi, remember me?! If not, totally understandable – I’ve been (very) absent. But I’m back!
Christmas was lovely, though A thought he’d starve to death one day, and die from eating too much the next. New Years was spent down south, in his home town Karlskrona. It was also nice, but I still have some – idiotic – issues with that place, so I’m just as happy coming back home again. It’ll get better with time, I’m sure.
We had a fabulous long weekend in London before Christmas, and the travelling will continue this year – even more – it’s like I’m returning to my old self, constantly on my way somewhere. Woohoo!
First up is a weekend XC-skiing in Orsa, just like the past two years. Hopefully I’ll see something this year…
A month later we’re heading to the Big Apple – New York City! I’m not quite sure how that came about, but A and I had collected enough bonus points with Star Alliance to get one ticket for free, so we (mainly A!) thought “what the heck” and booked it. Woot woot! How cool’s that?! Such a spontaneous booking, but it’s going to be fantastic
Ten days after returning from NYC we’re going to the Swedish island of Gotland, where my parents just bought a sharehold (?) (a house owned with others, they get to use it 10 weeks per year). We’ll be there for a long weekend, working two days from there instead of the office.
And just now we booked our summer holiday in…CANADA!!! My favourite country of all times. We’re doing a road-trip from Edmonton to Vancouver, from prairie to the Pacific. It’s going to be legendary!
If anyone has any tips to share on either of those destinations, please let me know!
Brooke – same here! And I’m thinking Tofino…you in?
Can’t wait to catch up! It’s going to be a goodie. xx. Safe travels Em & A xx
I actually haven’t been to the highline yet! Isn’t that terrible? We tried going on fourth of July last year but it was closed. Seems beautiful though. The weather should be perking up a little but by March (Although it hasn’t really gotten too cold there yet this year, I think it has only snowed twice) My husband loves burgers too, and that is exactly what he seeks out when we are in NY, thats one thing NY has over Sweden lol But I agree, I can’t stomach that many burgers either! We love to hang out at union square, go to the stores over there (There is actually a very cute 60′s style diner over there with fabulous burgers called “Good Stuff” diner). Walking down battery park is lovely, especially when it starts getting dark, but I wouldn’t recommend it in the cold. We also like to go to Roosevelt island and take the tram back, great photo ops. I lived in Queens, so I don’t have as many casual experiences in the city, but ill think of more! Astoria is a great neighborhood to visit in Queens that is only 15 min train ride away from the times square area. Much different vibe.
If I left my boyfriend completely in charge, all we would do is try different burgers in every single burger joint there is. Honestly! Perhaps allowing for a break in which we’d chow down a “genuine” burrito/taco from some Mexican dive. Alas – he’s not in charge
What I’m most excited about is finally visiting the High Line. Can’t wait! I just hope it’s as cool in winter (it’ll still be winter first weekend in March, right?) as it looks in summer… We’re there for three days, and I guess we just want to see the “true NYC”, not just the touristy bits.
Hi Megalagom (!)! No, it’ll actually be my fourth time in NYC, my first visit was the exact same weekend (as we’re going now), only 17 (!) years ago – yikes! Must be getting old…
While in NY I would certainly recommend seeing a Broadway play. My favorites are Wicked and Phantom of the Opera, its definitely a New York City experience you don’t want to miss out on! When my in-laws came all they wanted to do was shop, my husband likes to go to museums, and I like to sight see, so it really depends what your interests are (and how much time you have). I can give you some pointers once I know what you want to do! I hope you enjoy my hometown! ^^
Yes, I have a hint – travel from Edmonton to Vancouver by way of the Yukon. Ha! If only it were possible.
By the way will this be your first time in NYC?
Hej! I just found your blog and wanted to say hello! I just moved to Sweden this month and started a blog two days ago! Looking forward to reading your future adventures!
Yay! I’m super excited too Jodi! We’ll arrive in Edmonton in the evening of July 15th. Reckon we’ll try and be in Jasper by the weekend, and hope to see your brother on the way too. Can’t wait! Xx
Wow! You really are sounding like your old self – traveling everywhere and always
So super happy that you have an amazing traveling partner! On a purley selfish note – WAAAAHHHHOOOOO!!!! We CAN NOT wait for you to arrive in Edmonton!!! xoxoxoxo
